3.7.2 Special conditions for use
For use in Category 1 G (EPL Ga) applications:
■
The case consists of aluminium. The instrument shall be protected against mechanical
impact to avoid mechanically generated sparks.
■
The instrument has to be installed in such a way that process-related electrostatic
charges, e.g. caused by media passing by, can be excluded.
For use in Category 1/2 G (EPL Ga/Gb) applications:
The partition wall (membrane of the sensor) separating an area requiring EPL Ga
from a less hazardous area has a wall thickness < 0.2 mm for functional reasons. In
the application it has to be ensured, that an impairment of the partition wall e.g. by
aggressive/corrosive media or mechanical hazards is excluded.
The thread of the process connection and the partition wall (membrane of the sensor)
built into a partition wall of the end use application separating an area requiring EPL Ga
from a less hazardous area are made of stainless steel.
The process connection is a gas-tight standardized thread connection with an IP67 rating
according to EN/IEC 60529 between area requiring EPL Ga and the less hazardous area.
