4. Taking Measurements

If you intend to measure capacitances under 15 pF, press „REL“ with the
probes open before taking a measurement.
4.4 Diode Test Function
With this function you can test diodes and other semiconductors for continuity,
blocking and correct function.
Please Notice!
•
When using this function, never connect the probes to a power source, this
may destroy the unit.
•
Take measurements only on voltage free components and discharge pre-
sent capacitors.
Measuring Procedure for testing Diodes
1. Make the component or circuitry to be tested voltage free.
2. Press the „FUNC.“ button to turn the unit on. Press the function button
repeatedly until the diode symbol
is displayed.
3. Connect the component to be measured to the probes (attention: ob-
serve correct polarity) and read the measured value from the display.
4. Connect the probe marked plus to the anode of the diode (diode end
without ring marked) and the probe marked minus to the cathode.
5. If a value of up to 1.5 is displayed, the component works correctly in
forward direction. The forward voltage (no dimensional) is displayed. If
an overflow “OL” is displayed, the forward connection does not work
and the diode is defective.
6. Now turn the diode around (+ to cathode and - to die anode). If an
overflow “OL” is displayed, the diode blocks correctly, so it works cor-
rectly in blocking direction. If a voltage is displayed, the diode is defec-
tive.
