Functional description
SOMNO
vent
S operates according to the
principle of an electrically driven flow
generator with two pressure levels that are
controlled electronically.
•
A radial compressor draws in ambient
air through a filter
and conveys it to
the unit outlet
. From here the air
flows through the tube system
the nasal mask
to the patient.
•
A pressure sensor measures the
pressure present in the nasal mask
and the tube system
. A flow sensor
detects inspiration and expiration from
the fluctuations in the air stream. The
microprocessor-controlled flow
generator changes the pressure to the
set IPAP and EPAP values.
•
SOMNO
vent
S determines the right
trigger time from the fluctuations in the
air stream in the unit. Here it also
adjusts to changes in depths of
respiration as they occur for example in
different sleep phases. If the unit is used
for a lengthy period with the mask
open, a very high air flow will result.
Adjustment to the reduced air
throughput with the mask in position
may take up to several minutes in this
case.
•
If the patient does not breathe into the
unit, the pressure is changed to a
minimum frequency of 6 breaths per
minute.
•
An automatic softstart system is
installed to help the patient go to sleep
more easily. The expiratory pressure is
reduced to the initial pressure set by the
doctor. The inspiratory pressure is
reduced to a value 2 mbar above the
lower pressure limit. During the
