OPERATING SAFETY
•
Close and secure all guards, deflectors and
shields before starting and operating.
• Read and understand operator's manual before
starting. Review safety instructions annually.
• Personal protection equipment (PPE) including
hearing protection, hard hat, safety glasses, safety
shoes, and gloves are recommended during
assembly, installation, operation, adjustment,
maintaining, repairing, removal, or moving.
•
Do not allow long hair, loose-fitting clothing, or
jewellery to be around moving parts.
• Do not allow anyone within 20 ft (6 m) of machine
while loading or operating the spreader. Keep
children away.
• Never place any part of your body where it would
be in danger if movement should occur during
assembly, installation, operation, maintenance,
repairing, unplugging or moving.
• Never operate controls from the ground. Operate
only from the operator's seat to prevent accidents
• Always spread up or down a slope. Avoid spreading
across a slope.
• When operating the spreader, be aware of
surroundings or obstructions such as:
• Bystanders
• Trenches
• Rocks
• Fences
• Never use alcoholic beverages or drugs which can
hinder alertness or coordination while operating this
equipment. Consult your doctor about operating
this machine while taking prescription medications.
• Do not allow riders on this machine at any time.
There is no safe place for any riders.
• Keep loading area clean and free of debris to
prevent tripping.
• Stop engine when leaving unattended.
• For safety ensure your tractor is equipped with a
ROPS.
• Do not start the spreader until you know everyone
is clear of the machine and have made sure no
tools are lying on or inside the spreader.
The operator has the responsibility of being familiar with all operating and safety procedures and following
them�
Although the Wallenstein Spreader is easy to use, each operator should review this section to familiarize themself
with the detailed safety and operating procedures. These procedures can be applied to all versions of the Spreader.
After following all operating safety and preparation procedures the spreader should be set up and ready to run.
Tractor manual should also be reviewed. When preparing this machine for use, follow this procedure:

• Clear the area of bystanders, especially small
children.
• Each operator must be trained and familiar with
the set up and operation of the Spreader and its
components.
• Review the machine components (see Section 4.2)
• Review and follow the Pre-Operation Checklist (see
Section 4.4).
• Review operation and function of the controls (see
section 4.6)
• Survey the work site, move to a clear, level work
area and position at the work site. Do not start the
spreader until it is in position.
• Set up the machine.
• Understand how to put the machine into

Condition
before working with this machine,

Shut off hydraulics or mechanical drive.
•
Shut off the engine.
• Ensure all components have stopped moving.
• Set the parking brake.
• Remove and pocket the ignition key.
