9 Basic Troubleshooting
Problem / Symptom Reason Remedy
The burner does not start. Burner switch in OFF posi-
tion. Place switch in ON position.
Burner breaker in OFF posi-
tion. Place breaker in ON posi-
tion.
The machine is out of fuel. Refuel the machine.
Fuel is not reaching the
burner. Pump the prime button on
the fuel filter.
The 130°F or 350°F over-
temperature limit (snap
switch) has tripped. Allow the machine to cool.
The 210°F over-temperature
limit (snap switch) has
tripped. Reset the 210°F snap
switch.
The burner primary control is
in lockout mode. Reset the burner control.
The burner starts; the
flame does not ignite. The machine is out of fuel. Refuel the machine.
The burner nozzle is dam-
aged or worn. Replace the burner nozzle.
The electrodes are malfunc-
tioning. Replace the electrodes.
The cadmium cell is malfunc-
tioning. Replace the cadmium cell.
The burner primary control is
malfunctioning. Replace the burner primary
control.
The burner starts and the
flame ignites, but the unit
locks out. The fuel pressure is set incor-
rectly. Adjust the fuel pressure.
The burner nozzle is dam-
aged or worn. Replace the burner nozzle.
The air damper is set incor-
rectly. Adjust the air damper.
The cadmium cell is malfunc-
tioning. Replace the cadmium cell.
The burner primary control is
malfunctioning. Replace the burner primary
control.
Combustion is poor or
noisy. There is a lack of fresh air to
burner. Ensure there is an ade-
quate air supply.
Excessive blower noise Malfunctioning motor bear-
ings Replace motor bearings.
Mounting base not secure. Tighten mounting hardware.
The pulleys are misaligned. Adjust pulley alignment.
The belt tension is incorrect. Check tension.
