Notice to Installer
A Remote Start Safety Check must be performed before returning the
vehicle to the owner. This Safety Checklist document (TB101) can be
found online by going to www.directechs.com and can also be found
in the full online installation guide (N4X06).

Aux channels with the 1 button remote can only be accessed with channel linking to
unlock or remote start or with the optional SmartStart module.
**
This optional input can be connected to the horn circuit (+ or -) in vehicles with factory
alarm. When this wire receives input for a minimum of 0.5 seconds, the system reports
an alarm trigger on the 2-way remote. This input is not applicable to the 1-way or 1
button remote controls.
*** Connect this wire to ground through an optional momentary switch for turbo timer mode
activation.
**** Connect this wire to the (-) Parking Brake wire in the vehicle.
***** Required connection for manual transmission vehicles.
Important:
NEVER connect 200mA low current outputs directly to a motor or high current device
WITHOUT a relay.
Installation Points
Learning the Tach (not needed with Virtual Tach)
To learn the tach signal:
1.
Start
the vehicle with the key.
2. Within 5 seconds,
press
and
hold
the Control button.
3. After 3 seconds the status LED on your Control Center lights constant when
the tach signal is learned.
4.
Release
the Control button.
Important: This unit can learn the tachometer with the analog input or through D2D
using an interface module. The unit confirms which source is used by flashing the
parking lights.
When programming tach learning with:
•
Analog, the parking lights flash one time.
•
D2D interface module, the parking lights flash twice.
If the tachometer input on the system is connected to the vehicle, the D2D tachometer
input is ignored.
Learning Virtual Tach (not needed with hardwire tach inputs)
To program Virtual Tach:
1. After the install is complete,
remote start
the engine. The programming op-
eration may require 3 cranks of the starter before the engine starts and runs.
Do not turn off the remote start if this happens, it is a normal programming
operation.
2. Once the engine begins running, let it run for at least 30 seconds.
3. Using the Remote, send the Remote start command to turn remote start off.
Virtual Tach is programmed.
To reset Virtual Tach, go to the Reset and Deletion section of this guide. Virtual Tach
cannot be reset with the Bitwriter.
Note:
Virtual Tach cannot be used in MTS Manual Transmission Mode. It is also not
recommended for diesel vehicles.
Virtual Tach handles disengaging the starter motor during remote starting – it does
not address over-rev. If the customer wants to have the over-rev protection capability,
the tach wire must be connected.
Important:
After successfully learning Virtual Tach, a small minority of ve-
hicle starters may over crank or under crank during remote start. The
Bitwriter can be used to fine tune the starter output time in 50 ms increments
to compensate for such an occurrence.
Remote Pairing
This system comes with two remote controls that are already paired to the system. An
additional two remote controls can be stored in the system’s memory (for a maximum
of four). However, additional or replacement remote controls need to paired to the
system first before use. Use the following procedure to pair an additional or replace-
ment remote control to the system.
1. Turn the ignition to the ON position
2. Within ten seconds, press/release once and then press and hold the control
button on the system’s control center. The status LED begins flashing in a se-
quence of 1 flash and the horn sounds to confirm the system is ready for pair-
ing. Release the control center button.
3. Press and release the button twice quickly, and then press and hold the button.
The transmit LED comes on solid, continue to hold the button until the transmit
LED changes its pattern. Release the button and the transmit LED begins flashing
as an indication that the remote has entered the pairing mode.
4. Press and release the button on the remote control.
5. The horn sounds as a confirmation the system has paired with the remote control
and the 2-way remote plays tones confirming that the remote has paired with
the system (the 1-way remote does not offer confirmation tones). The remote will
automatically exit the pairing mode after 30 seconds or you can manually exit
the pairing mode by pressing and holding the button on the remote, the remote
will emit a tone confirming exit. If pairing fails repeat steps 3 - 6.
6. Turn the ignition off or wait 60 seconds for the system to exit the pairing mode,
the horn will sound as confirmation.
The learn routine exits if any of the following occurs:
•
The ignition is turned off.
•
There is no activity for 60 seconds.
•
The control button is pressed too many times.
Remote Start Shutdown/Startup Diagnostics
If the remote start activates but fails to stay running, the remote start module has the
ability to inform you of what may have caused the remote start failure. Before per-
forming shutdown diagnostics, it is recommended that you do not activate any of the
shutdown inputs including using the remote to shutdown the remote start.
To perform shutdown diagnostics:
1. With the ignition Off,
press
and
hold
the Control button.
2.
Turn
the ignition On and then back Off while
holding
the Control button.
3.
Release
the Control button.
4.
Press
and
release
the Control button. The status LED flashes to report the last
shutdown for one minute or until the ignition is turned on, as shown in the
following table:

down input is active.

Startup Diagnostics:
If the vehicle fails to activate the remote start, the remote start
module will flash the parking lights on the vehicle to notify you of what caused the
no-start situation.

Remote Start is disabled by Garage Mode. (see “Disabling
the Remote Start System” section for more detail).
Disabling the Remote Start System/Garage Mode
Garage Mode is a safety feature that disables the remote start system if the vehicle
is parked in a garage, being serviced, or used by someone unfamiliar with remote
start systems.
When Garage Mode is ON, any attempt to start the engine, activate Timer Mode,
or enter Pit Stop mode is denied and remote start diagnostics flashes the parking
lights nine times.
Turn Garage Mode on or off:
1.
Turn
the ignition on then off.
2. Within 10 seconds,
press
and release the Control Center button once.
3. The LED turns on.
4. The parking lights flash:
•
Nine times quickly when turning on.
•
Nine times slowly when turning off.
