Intel CPU SpeedStep Controls
Additional controls are available to support the
Intel Pentium M
processor’s
mobile power management features. If you have a
Celeron M Processor
the
settings are emulated by CPU throttling and you may still set the options to
your preference. These controls may be adjusted in the Intel CPU SpeedStep
settings in the BIOS. See
“BIOS Utilities” on page 6 - 1
for details on how to
access the BIOS utilities, and
“CPU SpeedStep Controls (Power Menu)” on
page 6 - 14
for the specific menu.
Windows XP Service Pack 2
Windows 2000
and
Windows XP
with Service Pack 1/1a installed support the
basic features of the Intel CPU SpeedStep controls. As long as you have
Win-
dows XP
with
Service Pack 2
installed, you will automatically get additional
processor drivers installed to support added features such as Intel Enhanced
SpeedStep Technology and Intel Deeper Alert Sleep State.
Hot Key Display
When the Hot Key driver is installed, the CPU SpeedStep mode will be dis-
played if you plug-in/remove the AC adapter to/from the DC-In Jack

CPU Performance
with SpeedStep
The CPU SpeedStep op-
tions will adjust the speed
of the CPU according to
the setting in the BIOS,
and in some cases this
will reduce the CPU per-
formance in order to con-
serve power consumption
(generally speaking the
higher the speed a CPU
runs, the more power it
will consume). You will
need to set the
CPU
SpeedStep
settings (and
the
Windows
Power
Scheme
settings) in or-
der to gain a balance be-
tween good performance
and power saving.
