Hinged rear gate

◼

The hinged rear gate allows easier cleaning, flail replacement, and easy general maintenance.

◼

The closed gate provides additional mulching, and the open gate allows for a more
straightforward disposal of the mowed material.

Step 5: Check drive belt tension

Opening the belt cover to check the belt tension is no longer needed. There is a small test window
where you can check the belt tension and condition in seconds. Adjust if necessary; see chapter
Adjustments.

Step 6: Check engine oil

This engine was shipped from Briggs & Stratton without oil. Equipment manufacturers or dealers
may have added oil to the engine. Before you start the engine for the first time, check the oil level
and add oil according to the instructions in this manual. If you start the engine without oil, it will be
damaged beyond repair and will not be covered under warranty.

Before adding or checking the engine oil, ensure the engine is level and clean the oil fill area of
debris.

Short dipstick, if equipped

1.

Remove the dipstick and wipe with a clean cloth.

2.

Install the dipstick. Do not turn or tighten.

3.

Remove the dipstick and check the oil level. The correct oil level is at the top of the full
indicator on the dipstick.

4.

If the oil level is low, slowly add oil to the overflowing engine oil fill point.

5.

Reinstall and tighten the dipstick.
