12V/24V Power
The S4200 provides a strong and complete form of surge protection on its 12V/24V power
port. No additional protection is required.
However, if you are installing the equipment in a lightning prone or heavy lightning
environment, or in a site where large AC mains power fluctuations are a common
occurrence, you may need to add external surge protection to your power supply devices.
For example, the power feed of an S4200 transmitter usually runs down the pole or wall for
more than 20 feet (7.6 meters); it is a good candidate for additional protection in a surge
prone environment.
External Antenna
The external antenna connector on the S4200 does not have surge protection; this
situation should not cause problems as long as you keep the antenna cable short—that is,
below 6.6 feet (2 meters).
Video and Serial
The video camera is usually within a short distance of the S4200 transmitter; the S4200
interface cable can be routed directly into the camera housing. Therefore, the video line
(and the serial port if using a PTZ camera) will seldom need additional protection.
Ethernet Port
If the S4200 is installed on a pole or mast, it is strongly recommended to plug an outdoor
Ethernet cable on the device and to run it down the pole. Tie the cable to the pole 2 feet
(0.7 meter) or less below the device, while ensuring that there is no tension between the
device and the tie point. This Ethernet cable will help performing maintenance operations
like firmware updates, by simply connecting it to a laptop. Because the bottom connector of
the cable is not permanently plugged into an Ethernet equipment, you must insert it in a
proper waterproof electrical enclosure for outdoor applications.
The basic CE-compliant form of protection implemented on the Ethernet port of the S4200
may not be sufficient to guarantee the product integrity under severe indirect lighting
induction. Therefore you should add an external surge protector to secure the Ethernet
connection of the device. Verint recommends to insert a surge protector next to the S4200;
it is up to the user to protect or not the laptop end.
Verint does not provide any recommendation regarding the installation of external
protection in cases not involving the mounting of the wireless device in an elevated
position; for example, the mounting of the product against a building wall that naturally
provides a more limited lightning exposure.
The surge protection module should be located within 1 meter of cable of the equipment.
No protection is required for the electrical box; do not connect your laptop if there are
chances of lightning.
