BATTERY RECHARGING
Prior to and after coming out of storage,
recharging the battery is recommended.
The engine must be stopped and the
area in which recharging will take place
must be dry.
A. Connect the battery charger shipped
to you to the trimmer/ mower wire har-
ness (A, Figure 5-15). The terminals
should be snugly connected.
B. Plug the recharger (B, Figure 5-15)
into a grounded 120-Volt outlet.
C. Charge the battery for 24 hours.
Remove the recharger from the wall out-
let first, and then the wire harness.
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
If the battery no longer takes a charge,
or is leaking or otherwise damaged, it
must be replaced.
A. Tilt the debris shield forward.
B. Disconnect both wires from the bat-
tery terminals. Remove the negative (-)
black wire, then the positive (+) red wire.
C. Two bolts (A and B, Figure 5-16) se-
cure the battery to the deck. Remove
bolt A, then work the battery from under
the battery clamp.
D. Position the new battery under the
clamp and replace bolt A.
E. Reconnect both wires to the battery
terminals. First connect the red wire to
the positive (+) terminal; then the black
wire to the negative (–) terminal.
NOTE: Discard battery properly, as
required by regulations in your area.

Before inspecting, cleaning or servicing the unit, shut off engine, wait for all parts
to come to a complete stop, disconnect spark plug wire and move wire away from spark plug.
Remove ignition key on electric start models. Failure to follow these instructions can result in
