Operation
Inspection before use
•
Visualinspectionofthestateofthelanyardandseams.
Thecord,thebeltandthestitchesshouldnotshowany
signsofwearandtear,burnsorcuts.Incaseofdoubt,
immediatelywithdrawtheequipmentfromuse.
•
Checkthestateoftheharnessandconnectorattachments.
•
Checkthecompletefallarrestersystem.
4.
Functions and description
•
A lanyard can be manufactured from kernmantle rope
orstrap(webbing).Thestraplanyardcanhaveafixed
length(straplanyard)oravariablelength(elasticstrap
lanyard). The elastic function enables you to shorten
the length of the lanyard when it is not tensioned by the
operatorandavoidsanydiscomfortduringmovements.
The length of the elastic strap lanyard is defined for a
loadof5kg.
•
Ifalanyardiscombinedwithanenergyabsorber:
- Thefulllengthofthelanyardequippedwithenergy
absorber, two machined ends and two connectors
mustnotexceed2m.
- A connector EN 362 must be used to connect the
lanyard and the energy absorber.
-
If the lanyard is a double lanyard and only has one
energyabsorber,connecttheenergyabsorbertothefall
arrestharnessandtothelanyardattheanchoringpoint.
- Donotcorrecttwolanyardseachequippedwithan
energy absorber in parallel between an anchoring
point and the fall arrest harness.
- Take all necessary measures to avoid falling on
sharp edges if lanyard is used horizontally, but if
afteranalysisthereisarisk,setuppaddingonthe
sharp edge.
•Singlelanyards,withoutshockabsorber,(fig.2,page2),
orpositioninglanyards,arenotfallprotectionlanyards,
and must not be used as a fall arrest system. They are
designedtoguardagainsttheriskofafallbypreventing
theuseraccessingdangerousareas(fig.4,page3).They
areusedtocreateortolowerananchoringpoint.
5.
Prohibited use
It is strictly forbidden:
• to install or use a lanyard without being authorised,
trained and recognised as competent or failing that,
without being under the supervision of an authorised
persontrainedandrecognisedascompetent.
•
tousealanyardifthemarkingisnotreadable.
•
toinstallorusealanyardthathasnotbeensubjectto
priorverification.
•
to use a lanyard that has not been subject to periodic
reviewduringtheprior12months,byatechnicianwho
has authorised its return to use in writing.
•
tousealanyardforanyotherapplicationthanprotection
againsttheriskofpeoplefalling.
•
to attach a lanyard by any other means that its
manufacturedends.
•
tousealanyardinanywayotherthanthatdefinedinthe
section"13.Lifespan".
• for a lanyard to be used by a person whose weight,
includingequipmentandtools,isgreaterthan150kg.
•
tousealanyardwithaloadofbetween100kgand150kg
(totalweightoftheuser,theirequipmentandtools)ifa
componentofthefallarrestsystemhasalowermaximum
load.
• to use a lanyard if it has arrested a fall.
•
tousealanyardoutsidethetemperaturerangespecified
in this manual.
•
tousealanyardifuserisnotinperfectphysicalcondition.
