Adding Fluid to the Clutch
Assembly
Fluid specification:
ATF D/M Automatic
Transmission Fluid (Toro Part No. 505-136)
1.
Remove the vent from the breather from the
transmission assembly (
).

Remove the drain plug (
) and allow the
transmission fluid to drain from the transmission
housing.
3.
Add the specified fluid (296 ml or 10 fl oz)
through the breather opening.
4.
Apply a light coating of clean motor oil (SAE 30)
onto the rubber portion of the seals and O-rings
(breather and level plug) prior to assembly.
5.
Install drain plug to the clutch assembly and
torque it to 14 N∙m (10 ft-lbs).
6.
Remove the level plug (
) to confirm
fluid fill level.
7.
Install the level plug and torque it to 14 N∙m (10
ft-lbs).
8.
Install the vent to the breather. Tighten until
gasket contacts and then tighten an additional
80°.
Adjusting the Traction
Control
If the traction control does not engage or if it slips
during operation, an adjustment is necessary.
1.
Move the traction control to the E
NGAGED
position.
2.
Measure the distance from the pin on either
end of the traction-control spring (
); if
it is not within 7.3 to 7.6 cm (2-7/8 to 3 inches),
adjust the clutch according to the steps below.

A.
Disengage the traction-control lever.
B.
Loosen the jam nut on the turnbuckle and
remove the clevis pin, disconnecting the
spring from the turnbuckle (
).
C.
Turn the turnbuckle in or out to adjust the
length as necessary.
D.
Install the turnbuckle to the spring with the
clevis pin.
E.
Move the traction control to the E
NGAGED
position.
F.
Measure the distance from the pin on either
end of the traction-control spring (
); repeat steps
through
until it is
within 7.3 to 7.6 cm (2-7/8 to 3 inches).
