Monochromated X-Ray Source with XR5 Electron Gun
Issue 5
Monochromator and XR5 (HA600054)
29
Symptom General
Cause
Specific
Cause
How to Rectify
How to Fix
Height of sample is
slightly wrong
Check height of sample on
CCD camera image
Adjust height
Mono spots or a
single spot not
completely
coincident.
Crystal
manipulators have
been moved.
Check that the position of the
mono spots coincident with the
CCD image using a phosphor
sample.
Adjust to obtain
coincident
position.
Mono gun not
running at specified
settings.
A HT tick has
corrupted the
power supply
settings.
Readback settings can be
seen in "Expert Mode", this
should follow the set values.
Stop and restart
mono gun.
One mono spot(s)
blocked.
Twin anode not
retracted blocking
one spot.
Observe position of twin
anode.
Retract.
Partial loss
of XPS
signal
Anode coating degraded
Move the anode on its z-drive
while running the ratemeter or
observing the spot on a
phosphor sample, look for
more signal or a brighter spot.
Leave at new
position.
Warning
messages
indicating a
gun fault
appear on
the data
system
Readback from
power supply to
datasystem
indicates a fault.
Can be caused by
a high voltage tick.
Check to see if it is was just a HT tick by clearing
the message and checking the gun still runs
correctly.
Loss of
control of
the gun from
the
datasystem.
Gun still
running
An HT tick has effected communication.
Reboot the
datasystem. Try
the gun control
again.
