REPLACING REFRIGERANT HOSES
Disassembly
1. Remove the refrigerant charge or pump down the low
side.
2. Use two wrenches to loosen the flare fittings.
3. Remove the hose and remove the fittings from the hose.
Assembly
1. Measure the hose, and using a sharp knife or suitable
plastic tube and hose cutter tool, cut to length. Make
sure the cut is clean and square. Wipe the inside of the
hose clean.
NOTE: DO NOT use a saw to cut the hose.
2. Assemble the hose and fittings.
a. Place the fitting socket in a vise and screw in the
hose counterclockwise until the hose bottoms.
Then back out the hose 1/4 turn.

b. Lubricate nipple threads and inside of hose with
refrigerant oil.
Refrigerant Hose Installation
1. Apply clean compressor oil to the flares to facilitate the
connection and use two wrenches to tighten the fittings.
2. Pour 2 oz. (59 ml) of compressor oil into the suction
hose before connecting on new installations and when-
ever replacing a compressor.
3. Leak check the system.
Torque Values for Refrigeration Flare Fittings
Refrigerant connections made with flare fittings must be
properly torqued to be leak free.
NOTE: Refrigerant oil must be used on flare seats to pre-
vent damage.
1. Tighten the nut finger tight until it bottoms the seat.
2. Mark a line lengthwise on the nut and extend it onto the
adapter.
