ANNEX A –TCP/IP Testing
If you are not sure about the TCP/IP configuration in your PC, there are some very
simple steps that check if you have:
•
DHCP server (Automatic IP assignation)
•
Fixed IP address
•
Connection with other devices on your local area network(LAN)
•
Internet access
The following tests are made with MS-DOS, to open this window take the following
steps:
Select:
Windows 98/ME: Start -> Programs -> MS-DOS. The MS-DOS window will open.
Windows 2000/XP: Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> command prompt. The
command prompt window will open.
In this new window we are to key in the command “ipconfig”. This screen will show
the TCP/IP parameters of all the network adapters.
If your network adapter is configured to obtain an IP address automatically, to renew
the IP configuration, key in the following commands:
Windows 98/ME
Windows 2000/XP
ipconfig /release_all
ipconfig /renew_all
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
If the process fails, the screen will show the message “DHCP server not available:
renewing adapter”. In this case check that the connection with your DHCP server is
correct and that the DHCP server is activated.
