Troubleshooting

WFM700 Series Waveform Monitors Service Manual

Use this troubleshooting tree to help diagnose a blank screen.

Power on the

instrument.

Does

the LCD display

startup messages on screen

during power

up?

Yes

Connect a VGA monitor to the
EXT VGA connector located
at the rear of the instrument.

Does

the monitor display

messages during power

up?

Yes

Check that the cables
between the Main Interface
board and the Front Panel
assembly are properly
connected and not damaged.

LCD

display still

blank?

Yes

Separate the Front Panel assembly form the chassis and
disconnect the cable at J890 on the Main Interface board.

Power up the instrument and wait for the title screen to
appear on the external VGA monitor.

Use an oscilloscope to check for the following 5 V logic
signals at J890:

Pin 2: 25 MHz clock
Pin 3: 31.5 kHz pulse
Pin 4: 60 Hz pulse
Pin 13: dynamic data with prevalent 31.5 kHz signal

Are

the signals

present at

J890?

Yes

Replace Front
Panel assembly.

Replace Main
Interface board.

Power on the instrument and press and hold the
internal reset button (S710 on the CPU board).

The display is functioning.
If problems persist, refer
to Check for Problems on
page 4--27.

Do any

segments or the decimal

point on DS710 light while

holding the reset button

in?

Check that all switches of the
S610 (DIP switch on the CPU
board) are in the up position
(towards the top of the board).

If DIP switches are OK, replace
the CPU board. If not, recheck
after correcting the switches.

Yes

Watch for the following changes on
DS710 when releasing the reset button:

DS710 changes from off to character
“F” and then to “3” during the first 15
seconds of the power-up cycle.

Does

DS710 display

correctly?

Yes

Replace
CPU board.

If problems persist, refer
to Check for Problems
on page 4--27.
