Maintenance

This chapter of the manual contains information for performing preventive
maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance for the 371B.

Preventive Maintenance

Preventive maintenance performed on a regular basis can prevent instrument
breakdown and may improve the reliability of the instrument. The severity of the
environment to which the instrument is subjected will determine the frequency of
maintenance. A convenient time to perform preventive maintenance is preceding
electrical adjustment of the instrument.

Cabinet Panels

 Dangerous high-voltage potentials exist at several points throughout

this instrument. When the instrument is operated with the covers removed, do not
touch exposed connections or components. Some transistors have voltages
present on the case. Disconnect power before cleaning the instrument or
replacing parts.

The side, top, and bottom cabinet panels provide protection to personnel from
high-voltage potentials present within the instrument. In addition, they reduce
radiation of electromagnetic interference from the instrument. Operate the
instrument with the panels in place to protect the interior from dust, and to
maintain cooling airflow.

Cleaning

The 371B should be cleaned as often as operating conditions require. Accumula-
tion of dirt in the instrument can cause overheating and component breakdown.
Dirt on components acts as an insulating blanket and prevents efficient heat
dissipation. It also provides an electrical conduction path that may result in
instrument failure.
