Advanced Configuration and Operation
In Network and Sharing Center there is a section Sharing and Discovery at the
bottom. On the left you’ll see the name of each function. The arrow next to it allows
you to access the corresponding configuration.

First of all you should open the Network discovery by clicking the arrow. The
corresponding configuration dialogue box will appear. Enable the option Turn on
network discovery and apply the changes by clicking the Apply button. This allows
the computers in the network to become visible and will not be hidden.
Now open the option File sharing below. Choose the option File sharing on . This
will enable Windows to share files and folders for other network users. However,
there is still no data published at this time. Only the functionality will be provided.
Click
Apply to confirm the changes.

A very interesting feature is offered by the option Public folder sharing . This
will share the folder Public on the network. For Windows Vista
®
this is the most
important network folder. It allows all computer or network users to exchange files
directly. Your private data will be kept private in your user folder. Only that data
explicitly copied to the folder
Public will be accessible by other users.
