Enabling Remote Access
The OS running on the E10 only allows remote access with user accounts that have a
password already set.
If you are still logging into your E10 as user
root
(with no password), then remote SSH
logins will not be allowed. This is a security feature.
Either create a separate user account for remote access or, at a minimum, use the standard
Linux
passwd
command to assign a password to the
root
account.
# passwd

Logging in via SSH
Once the E10 has been set up to allow remote logins, you will need an SSH client on some
other PC. One example of a Windows Telnet/SSH program that works with the E10 is
PuTTY, which can be found on the following website:
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty
When launched, PuTTY prompts you for the details of the system you plan to connect to
(see
Figure 4-1
).
