Chapter 6: Advanced Chassis Setup
6-13
6-8 System
Fans
Four 8-cm fans circulate air through the chassis to lower the internal temperature.
The SC938H system fans are designed to be easily changed, with no tools required
and no need to remove any other parts inside the chassis. See Section 6-3 to de-
termine which nodes and hard drives are cooled by each system fan.
Replacing a System Fan
1. If necessary, open the chassis top cover while the system is operating to
determine which fan has failed. Never run the server for an extended period
of time with the top cover open.
2. Remove the failed fan's power cord from the backplane.
3. Simultaneously squeeze both release tabs on the top of the fan module.
4. Lift the fan module up and out of the chassis.
5. Place the replacement fan into the vacant space in the fan bracket while mak-
ing sure the arrows on the top of the fan (indicating air direction) point in the
same direction as the arrows on the other fans.
6. Put the fan back into the chassis and reconnect the cable.
7. Con
fi
rm that the fan is working properly before replacing the chassis cover.
