6-7 System Cooling
Four 4-cm counter-rotating fans provide the cooling for the system. Each fan unit
is actually made up of two fans joined back-to-back, which rotate in opposite
directions. This counter-rotating action generates exceptional airflow and works to
dampen vibration levels. Four compound fans come stock with the server, and four
more can be added.
Make sure the chassis top cover makes a good seal so the cooling air circulates
properly through the chassis.
System Fan Replacement
Fan speed is controlled by IPMI depending on the system temperature. If a fan
fails, the remaining fans will ramp up to full speed. The system can continue to
run with a failed fan.
Replace any failed fan at your earliest convenience with the same model. Failed
fans can be identified through the BIOS. The fan numbers are printed on the floor
of the chassis.
