as soon as you close the head.
The modeling and support tips reach 270
°
C. Always wear heat resistant gloves
when you work with or around them.
Loading ABS and Release Material
1.
Inspect the wheels, spools, tips and head before starting each model.
Tighten the tips to prevent ooze and seam defects. If there is fila-
ment in the system, purge the head and tips by causing some fila-
ment to flow through the system and then clean the tips with a steel
brush. This helps prevent clumping, burning and similar problems.
2.
Start with the release material. Make sure it is clean, smooth and
untangled. Cut off any nicks or bulges with side cutters.
3.
Make sure the material is wrapped tightly around the spool and then
load the spool so the filament feeds into the FDM modeler with a
clockwise rotation. The spool must be pushed all the way back until
it clicks into place.
4.
Open the head.
5.
Insert the filament seals using the tool supplied by Stratasys.
6. Feed the filament through the head past the seals.
7. Cut the filament to a square edge with diagonal cutters, and push it back
so only 1/8 inch of filament is sticking out from the filament seals.
8. Repeat steps 2-5 with your ABS spool.
9. Make sure to place the bags of desiccant in the dry box with the spools
and latch the dry box closed.
10. Close the head and heat the liquefiers to the temperature recommended
on the material spools.
Always make sure your filament is loaded and your liquefiers are up to modeling
temperature BEFORE you put on a tip.
11. Use the tool provided by Stratasys and make sure the tips are tight.
The motor shaft specifications are designed to load at 50%. Exceeding this limit
may cause the motor shaft to break.
12. Inspect the flow. It may sputter if there is blockage or other problems.
If filament does not begin coming out of the tips within 20 seconds,
turn off the load, open the head and check for anything that might
prevent filament from flowing through the tip.
13. Clean the tips with a steel brush.
If filament is already loaded into the machine, repeat step 1, and then
repeat steps 8-16 from loading filament.
