Wings
52.
Lay the wing panels W1 (sheet 01/10 and 02/10, 1/20 in. balsa) on the work surface with
the etched side facing
up.
Fit the tabs at the
rear
of ribs W2, W4 (sheet 01/10, 1/20 in.
balsa), and W3 (sheet 05/10, 1/20 in. balsa) into the slots along the trailing edge of each
panel. Refer to the wing diagram on the plan for the correct rib location. “Tack glue” the
rear
of each rib to the wing panel.
53.
Turn the panels over, and wrap the wing panels over the ribs, tack gluing them where they
fit into the slot and notches in the wing panel, and along the spar. Pick up the wings and
view them from the
front
,
rear
, and the ends to make sure that each wing is perfectly flat,
with no twists. Close any gaps between the ribs and the wing panel, final bond with CA.
Wing Struts
54.
Assemble two pairs of struts from parts Sa and Sb (sheet 10/10, 1/32 in. ply). Bond with
CA.
Wheel Pants - Optional
The kit is supplied with two sets of wheels: one set is cut from flat Delrin, intended for use
with
the wheel pants, and one pair of molded wheels for use
without
wheel pants.
55.
Stack the wheel pants, parts WPa through WPe (sheet 07/10, 1/16 in. balsa) in order,
making sure that the etched side of each part faces
up
. Align the edges carefully, then wick
CA between the laminations.
Do not allow glue to enter the pocket for the wheels, or
clog the holes for the axle.
Build a
right
and a
left
wheel pant.
56.
Turn the wheel pants over, and fit part WPf (sheet 10/10, 1/32 in. ply) into the pockets in
WPa. Orient them so that the arrow on each WPf points towards the
front
, rounded end of
the wheel pant. Wick a tiny drop of CA around the edges of WPf.
Make sure that no glue
enters the slots or holes for the landing gear wire.
57.
Sand the completed wheel pants to a streamlined shape. Round the
front
and the
top
of
each wheel pant. Leave the
bottoms
square, and tapered toward the
rear
.
Final Assembly -
Covering and Painting
58.
Cover the model with a high-quality, lightweight iron-on material. We highly recommend
AeroLite, available at
stevensaero.com
. Cover the fuselage. Leave the
bottom aft
of the
landing gear pocket uncovered until after the radio and pushrods have been installed.
