TROUBLESHOOTING

If you need replacement parts, or if you are unsure how to do any of the solutions given here, feel free

to call us at (360) 734-1540

Machine does not
start, or power
supply breaker
immediately trips
after startup

1.

Switch disabling key removed

1.

Install switch disabling key

2.

Blown fuse

2.

Replace fuse/ensure no shorts

3.

Incorrect power supply voltage or
circuit size

3.

Ensure correct power supply voltage and circuit
size

4.

Plug at fault/wired incorrectly

4.

Test for good contacts; correct the wiring

5.

Power supply circuit breaker
tripped or fuse blown

5.

Ensure circuit is free of shorts  Reset circuit breaker
or replace fuse

6.

Wiring broken, disconnected, or
corroded

6.

Fix broken wires or disconnected connections

7.

ON/OFF switch at fault

7.

Replace switch

8.

Circuit board at fault

8.

Inspect/replace if at fault

9.

Motor or motor bearings at fault

9.

Replace motor

Machine slows
when operating

1.

Operator using too much pressure

1.

Use less pressure when buffing

2.

RPM too low

2.

Increase buffing wheel RPM

Symptom

Possible Cause

Possible Solution

Machine stalls or is
underpowered

1.

Machine undersized for task

1.

Use new buffing wheel; reduce feed rate

2.

Buffing wheel too large/wide or
exceeds recommended wheel rating

2.

Replace with smaller wheel or reduce wheel width

3.

Motor overheated

3.

Clean motor, let cool, and reduce workload

4.

Circuit board at fault

4.

Test/replace circuit board

5.

Motor or motor bearings at fault

5.

Replace motor

Machine has
vibration or noisy
operation

1.

Buffing wheel loose or worn

1.

Re-install (Page 19) or replace buffing wheel

2.

Motor or component loose

2.

Replace damaged/missing fasteners; tighten if loose

3.

Incorrectly mounted to workbench

3.

Adjust feet, shim, or tighten mounting hardware

4.

Motor shaft bent

4.

Test with dial indicator and replace motor

5.

Motor or motor bearings at fault

5.

Test by rotating shaft; rotational grinding/loose
shaft requires bearing replacement

Poor results from
buffing/polishing
operation

1.

Workpiece contains residue or
contaminants

1.

Dirt, oil, rust, paint, or other film must be removed
chemically or with water  Dry parts before buffing

2.

Contaminated buffing compounds
on wheel

2.

DO NOT mix different compounds on same wheel
Use separate wheel for each compound  Remove
compound with buffing wheel rake (Page 22

3.

Wrong buffing compound for
material

3.

Use correct buffing compound (Page 20

4.

Workpiece not held firmly

4.

Use a holding device to firmly secure workpiece

5.

Incorrect stroke for buffing
compound/wheel/material

5.

Use upward stroke with heavy pressure for cutting;
downward stroke with light pressure for polishing

6.

Incorrect type of buffing wheel for
material

6.

Use correct buffing wheel (Page 18
