Installation environment for audio capture
The audio capture performance of the MAS-A100 is affected by the use of the speech
reinforcement function, installation location, shape of the room in which it is installed,
materials of the room, and ambient noise environment. This section describes the
recommended installation environment for the MAS-A100 for audio capture.
Relationship with speech reinforcement function
To use only the audio capture function, calibration is not required and you can use the
unit immediately after initial setup.
To use the speech reinforcement output and audio capture output at the same time,
the operation will be affected by the calibration of the speech reinforcement function
If the results of calibration for speech reinforcement are poor, it may affect the sound
quality of the audio capture function.
When the results of calibration for speech reinforcement are poor, use separate
MAS-A100 units for audio capture and speech reinforcement.
If the installation location is changed or if the intended use is changed, such as from
speech reinforcement to audio capture, reset the unit to factory defaults (see “6.3
Factory reset” (page 81)) and perform the initial setup to initialize the calibration
state.
Noise
The MAS-A100 has two functions to reduce noise.
One is a noise reduction function that reduces continuously occurring noise. This
function makes fan sound from projectors and air conditioners, and sources that
generate continuous sine wave sounds less likely to be captured.
The other is an ambient noise filter function that reduces sporadically occurring noise.
This function makes keyboard type sounds and paper rustling sounds less likely to be
captured.
Both functions cannot be used in environments where there is noise louder than the
voice of the speaker requiring reinforcement. There are limits on the ability of the
functions to reduce noise. The audio capture output function can capture audio over a
wider range than for the speech reinforcement function. It is recommended that units
be installed as far as possible from sources of noise. Depending on the installation
location, noise from corridors and air conditioning ducts, etc. may be captured.
When not installing on a ceiling, use cushioning material or sound absorbing material
so that the sound of footsteps and desk noises are not captured.
