To select the source memory on a
USB device for importing
For some USB devices, you may have to select the
memory (for example, the internal memory or a
memory card) in which the desired folder or track
is stored. In this case, select the memory as follows.
For details on which USB devices are compatible,
see page 78.

Press WM-PORT/USB to select the
WM-PORT/USB function and connect
the USB device to the (USB) port.
If a “WALKMAN” is connected to the WM-
PORT, disconnect it.

Recording from an FM/
AM radio broadcast, DAB
service*, or externally
connected device
You can record an FM/AM radio broadcast, a
DAB service*, or from an external device. Tracks
are automatically recorded and stored in the MP3
audio format and at a bit rate of 128 kbps.

Prepare the unit for recording.
Select the function according to the item to
be recorded.
When recording an FM/AM radio
broadcast or DAB service*:
Press TUNER/BAND to select the FM/AM/
DAB function, and tune in the desired radio
program or DAB service (page 37).
When recording from an external
device (DMPORT):
Press DMPORT to select the DMPORT
function, and then connect an external device
to the DMPORT (page 41).
When recording from an external
device (AUDIO IN):
Press AUDIO IN to select the AUDIO IN
function, and then connect an external device
to the AUDIO IN jack (page 42).

Recording starts.
The unit automatically adds a track mark at
60-minute intervals.
To cancel recording

To pause recording
Press HDD REC

When the recording is restarted, a track mark is
added and a new track is created.
Tips
A track mark is added whenever you press the HDD
REC
button. Track marks can only be added for
tracks with a minimum length of 4 seconds.
The recorded data are named as follows in the HDD.

For FM, AM and DAB recordings, a maximum of
99 tracks can be stored to a folder. Tracks from the
100th onward are stored to a newly created folder
with a number added to the name.
(Example: 87.5 MHz (0002))
For DMPORT and AUDIO IN recordings, a folder is
created for each recording.

The number added to a title depends on how many
times recordings have been made from the given
recording source.
