Section G
AirWave System Operator’s Manual
33
WARNING! When connecting the AirWave Sensor to an ETT that is already intubated, be careful not
to move or dislodge the ETT.
c.
Check that the ETT is securely connected to the Sensor.
d.
Connect the ventilator and other airway devices (e.g. suction catheter, ETCO2, filter, etc.) to the
proximal end (15 mm connector) of the AirWave Sensor.
9. Modifying the Calibrated ETT Length
If the intubated ETT has been cut (often done with neonates) or if the intubated ETT was not in the calibration
database and is longer than the Mallinckrodt tube used to calibrate the System, then the calibrated ETT length
stored within the Monitor must be adjusted manually. To manually adjust the ETT length that was stored in the
system during calibration, access the
Waveform Screen
and press the left or right navigational arrows until the
tube calibration indicator is highlighted in green (see Figure G-33).

button to bring up the

prompt (shown in Figure G-34).
Figure G-34
Change the value of the ETT length to the new length using the up and down navigational arrows.
To measure the intubated ETT length, find the ETT length marking that is closest to the Sensor and
measure the distance from the marking to the Sensor connector tip. Add this measured distance to the
distance on the marking to obtain the ETT length. For example, as shown in Figure G-35 below, the
distance between the 15 cm marking and the Sensor connector tip is 1.1 cm which results in an ETT
length of 16.1 cm.
