b. Use the down arrow to highlight the speed factor, press Enter to turn speed factor from yellow to
white.
c. Select the up or down navigational arrow, and change the speed factor to change the sound
speed. To determine an appropriate
Speed Factor
value, verify that the tube tip echo (highlighted
by the light blue circle in Figure G-11 below) is roughly centered inside the middle red frame (see
Section D
for a more detailed explanation of this echo). The
waveform will update in real time as the speed factor is changed. See
Alternate Method for
Setting Sound Speed Correction
for specifics on finding the correct Speed Factor.

When changing the sound speed correction settings from the
Main Menu
, the process
of verifying the factor involves switching back and forth between the
Sound Speed Correction
Screen
and the
Waveform Screen
. This process is iterative and may require several repetitions.
NOTICE!
When the AirWave is used with anesthesia gases, the Speed Factor may require frequent adjustments
if the anesthesia gas composition changes frequently.
Alternate Method for Setting Sound Speed Correction
a. The Sound Speed Correction settings can also be modified directly from the
Waveform Screen
. To
do this, press the left or right navigational arrow until the Sound Speed Correction indicator is
highlighted in green (see blue arrow in Figure G-9).
