IMPORTANT NETWORK CONFIGURATION WARNINGS
:
Note that if no Gateway exists on the network, insure that no default gateway IP Address is entered in
the network settings. It has been found that with computers running Windows, specifying a default
Gateway where none exists can result in communication interruptions between the HTTP client (the
PC) and server (the IDU).
Also note that if testing a link in a laboratory environment, only one IDU can be connected to a
LAN via an Ethernet cable at any one time.
If both IDUs are connected to the same LAN via
Ethernet and the link is closed, a loop is formed which will disrupt the network.
6.2
Initial Access to the GUI
The default IP address assigned to the IDU is 192.168.70.100, with subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Some
units may have the legacy IP address 192.168.71.252 or 192.168.71.254 - a serial cable may be
connected to the unit to verify the address.
Once you have set up your terminal with the IP scheme above, you can open up your browser window
and type in the IP address of the IDU after which you will be presented with an IDU login screen:
The default log-in information is the following:
Default IP Address
192.168.70.100
Subnet Mask
255.255.255.0
User Name

Password

Table 6-1: Default Log-in Information
NOTE: User Name and Password are case-sensitive.
NOTE: Serial Console - In the event that the system IP address is unknown, the serial console
interface provides quick access to this parameter. The current IP address can be obtained by
connecting the RS-232 serial port of a computer to the front panel Serial Console port of the IDU.
(See Chapter 8 for details of terminal emulator setup parameters.) The IP address of the IDU is
shown at the serial console login prompt (no need to log in). It is not recommended that the Serial
Console be used to configure or manage the IDU.
There is also another level of access called “public”, which is for status monitoring only without
configuration privileges. Passwords for both classes of access can be changed in the System tab. Please
refer to the description in the System tab section.

General Status
On each management screen, the upper section of the screen provides basic connectivity information, as
shown in Figure 6-2.
