GOVERNOR ADJUSTING PROCEDURE (Kubota Engines)
1.
Start and run engine at operating temperature. Shut engine off.
2.
Locate and adjust the “GAIN” Potentiometer on the Governor Control Box to 30%. See Figure 5-9 for location.
3.
Attach a Tachometer to the engine.
4.
Locate and disconnect the spade connectors in the wires going to the Governor Actuator. See Figure 5-7 for
location.
5.
Start engine from Base Controls and adjust the Idle Stop Screw on the carburetor to 950 RPM’s.
6.
Stop engine and reconnect spade connectors.
7.
Start engine from Platforms Controls.
DO NOT DEPRESS FOOTSWITCH.
8.
Locate and adjust the “LOW” Potentiometer on the Governor Control Box to 1400 RPM’s. See Figure 5-9 for
location.
9.
Select “LOW” RPM’s with the Engine Speed switch. Depress and hold the Foot switch.
10.
Locate and adjust the “MID” Potentiometer on the Governor Control Box to LOW RPM’s. See Figure 5-9 for
location.
11.
Select “HI” RPM’s with the Engine Speed switch. Depress and hold the Foot switch.
12.
Locate and adjust the “HI” Potentiometer on the Governor Control Box to HIGH RPM’s. See Figure 5-9 for
location.
13.
Continue to hold Foot Switch depressed with the Engine Speed switch in the “HIGH” position.
14.
Locate the “GAIN” Potentiometer on the Governor Control Box and turn it clockwise until the engine surges.
Turn the “GAIN” potentiometer counter clockwise until the engine stablizes. NOTE: If Engine stays stable at
100% Gain, manually bump the carburetor throttle linkage to cause the engine to surge. Turn the “GAIN”
Potentiometer counter clockwise until the engine “surges” 2-3 times after bumping. If the Engine stays stable
at 100% Gain after “bumping” the throttle linkage, leave at the 100% setting.
15.
With Foot Switch depressed, switch between “LOW” and “HIGH” with the Engine Speed switch. The governor
should respond immediately with 2-3 “surges”. Adjust the Gain Potentiometer to achieve immediate response
with 2-3 “surges”.
16.
Paint all Potentiometer adjusting screws with Nail Polish or RTV Silicone to prevent vibration from changing
settings.
