Block search

When verifying part programs or after processing has been interrupted, the
block search function can be used to select any point in the part program at
which processing is to start or be continued. Block search can be performed
with or without calculation.

Boot

Loading of the system program after Power On.

C axis

Axis about which a controlled rotary motion and positioning take place with
the workpiece spindle.

Channel

A channel is characterised by its ability to execute a part program
independently of other channels. Part program sequences in different channels
can be co-ordinated by synchronisation.

Clipboard

When copying and reading in data, the data can, if required, always be stored
first of all in the clipboard (buffer) from which it can then be inserted/arranged
in a specific directory.

CNC

CPU

Central Processing Unit

Cursor

Marker used in editors, input boxes etc. to identify the position.

Cutter radius
compensation

When programming a contour, the tool is assumed to be pointed. Because this
is not a real life situation, the radius of curvature of the tool used by the control
is specified and allowance is made for this. The centre of curvature is shifted
by the radius of curvature equidistantly around the contour.

Cycle

Protected subroutine for executing a repetitively occurring machining
operation on the workpiece.

Data

Individual value(s), e.g. machine data.

Data block

Data unit of the PLC to which STEP 5 programs can access.

Data selector

Aid for selecting and displaying files and directories.

Data transfer
program PCIN

PCIN is a universal program for sending and receiving CNC user data through
the serial interface, e.g. part programs, tool offsets etc. The PCIN program will
run under MS-DOS on standard industrial PCs.

Data word

Two-byte data unit within a data block.

Diagnosis

Operating area in the control

Dialog

Dialog text shown on the screen in accordance with a menu and to which a
reply is expected by means of softkey functions or by pressing a key.

Directory

Organisation unit for the hierarchical management of the data on a hard disk.
Files and/or further (sub)directories can be stored within a directory.
