Load power supply

Power supply for supplying signal and function modules and the process I/Os
connected to them.

Master

When a master has the token, it is permitted to send data to other nodes and to
request data from other nodes (= active node).

DP masters are, for example, the CPU 416-2 DP, the CPU 414-2 DP, the CPU

315-2 DP or the IM 308-C.

Master-slave mechanism

Bus access mechanism with which only one node is the

DP master and all

other nodes are

DP slaves.

Node

Device that sends, receives or repeats data sent via the bus, for example DP
master, DP slave, RS 485 repeater, active star coupler.

Non-floating

With non-floating input/output modules, the reference potentials of the control
and load circuits are electrically connected.

Parameter assignment

Parameter assignment involves the setting of the behavior of the module.

Parameter assignment master

Each DP slave has one parameter assignment master. During startup, the
parameter assignment master transfers the parameter data to the DP slave. This
master can read and write the DP slave and is also permitted to modify the
configuration of a DP slave.
