2. TRACTOR REQUIREMENTS
The tractor used to operate the cutter must have the power capacity to lift, pull, and operate the Power Take
Off (PTO) at the cutter’s rated speed while traveling at a ground speed between 2 and 5 MPH. Operating the
cutter with a tractor that does not meet the following requirements may cause tractor or cutter damage and be
a potential danger to the operator and passersby.

• Certified approved Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS) or ROPS cab and seat belt.

-Recommended ............... FX-1800 85 HP; FX-1200 80 HP
• Drawbar............................................................ Set length according to operating speed and driveline type,
rated to carry weight of the mower, safety chain attachment
point
• Drawbar Vertical Load Minimum Capacity ....... 2100 lbs.
• Hydraulics -Minimum........................................ One single acting circuit and one double acting circuit, both

• Front End Weights............................................ As needed to maintain 20% weight on front axle
• Power Take Off ................................................ Operating speed and shaft size depends on operating
speed and driveline type of the mower.
• Tire Spacing ..................................................... Set tires minimum width of 60” inside to inside of tires.
2.3 Tractor Horsepower
The horsepower required to operate the mower depends on several operating factors including the vegetation
to be cut, terrain condition, operator experience, condition of the mower and tractor, and other factors. The
recommended tractor HP for the FX-1800 is 85 HP, minimum 50 HP. The recommended tractor HP for the FX-
1200 is 80 HP, minimum 45 HP. Operating the mower with a tractor that does not have enough power will
produce a less desirable cut and may cause tractor engine damage.
2.1 ROPS and Seat Belt
The tractor must be equipped with a Factory Cab and seat belt to protect the operator from falling from the
tractor and being crushed or run over by the tractor and/or implement resulting in serious injury or death. Only
operate the tractor while seated in the operator’s seat with the seatbelt securely fastened around the operator

2.2 Tractor Safety Devices
If transporting or operating the tractor and implement near a public roadway, the tractor must be equipped with
proper warning lighting and a Slow Moving Vehicle (SMV) emblem which are clearly visible from the rear of
the unit. Lights and a SMV emblem must be equipped directly on implements if the visibility of the tractor
warning signals are obscured.
Maintain all manufacturer equipped safety shields and guards. Always replace shields and guards that were
removed for access to connect, service, or repair the tractor or implement. Never operate the tractor PTO
with the PTO master shield missing or in the raised position.
