File Transfer to Host and Billing System
After the meter reader returns the PC memory cards containing
the collected data to the utility, the operator transfers the informa-
tion to the host software and then on to the utility company billing
system. The operator loads the files from the PC memory cards
and then performs a file transfer from the host software to the bill-
ing system (see Figure 4.3).

Using PC Memory Cards to Exchange Information
The process of transferring information to and from the host com-
puter is performed at the host level. The only involvement by the
meter reader in the process is to insert the PC memory card con-
taining assigned routes into the RoadMAPS Unit before reading
meters and then to remove the PC memory card to return it to the
operator after reading meters. The meter reader performs no man-
ual import or export procedures.
To exchange information with the host computer
Follow these procedures to transfer files from and to the host
computer system.
