Start up of cassettes
For long term storage proceed as follows:
1. Clean the filter cassettes (see
“Cleaning the Filter Cassettes”
).
2. Recirculate the preservative for 5 minutes through the system at the same flow
rate used to flush the filter cassettes.
The preservative must flow through both
permeate outlets.
3. Remove the filter cassette from the holding device.
4. Store the filter cassettes in a closed container or bag as follows:

Plastic bag:
Seal the filter cassette together with 50 ml of preservative into the bag.
t
Container:
Pour preservative over the filter cassette until it is completely immersed;
then close the container.
The storage solution has to be washed of the outer surface with purified water
before installation into a holding device.
2.10 Cassette Return Instructions
If cassettes are sent back to Sartorius Stedim for evaluation, please proceed
as follows:
1. Inform your local Sartorius Stedim Application Support.
2. Clean the cassettes completely (see
“Cleaning the Filter Cassettes“
).
3. Disinfect the cassettes (see current product return form).
4. Include the following information:
a. Specify product or media filtered
b. Describe failure observed
c. Reveal operating parameters such as
– operating pressure
– time in use
– process cycles
– cleaning conditions
– process temperature
d. Number of cleaning cycles
e. Description of disinfectant.
2.11 Disposal
If non-hazardous residual impurities are present, the EWC waste code 150203
(European Waste Catalogue) for absorbents and filter materials, wiping cloths and
protective clothing can be applied. If the filters are contaminated with hazardous
materials, the EWC waste code 150202* for absorbents and filter materials
contaminated with hazardous materials should be used. If you are uncertain, contact
your waste disposal authority.
