5. Avoid running the engine at idle for long periods of
time.
6. Manage engine power to allow acceleration to
governed speed when conditions require more
power. Do not over-rev the engine.
7. Always allow the engine to cool before shutting it off.
8. After shutting off the engine, check the fluid levels.
Engine Shutdown
NOTICE!
• Stopping the engine before it cools can
accelerate engine component wear. Never
abruptly shut down the engine, except in an
emergency.
• Never stop the engine suddenly when it is
overheated. Run the engine at low idle to allow
the engine to cool down gradually before
shutting it down.
Failure to follow this notice could damage the
machine or cause it to operate improperly.
1. Park the machine on a firm, level surface.
2. Lower the bucket or optional equipment to the
ground.

3. Move the hydraulic control lever (1) to the locked
(closed) position (2).

4. Adjust the throttle control dial (3) to MIN (low idle)
and allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes to cool
down.
5. Turn the key switch to OFF and remove the key.
Inspection after Engine Shutdown
1. After shutting down the engine, conduct a
walk-around inspection. Check the work equipment,
the exterior of the machine, and the undercarriage.
2. Check for fluid leaks.
3. Fill the fuel tank with diesel fuel.
4. To prevent fires, clean the engine compartment of
combustible debris.
5. Clean mud from the tracks and undercarriage.
Moving the Machine
Machine Moving Precautions
WARNING
• Check the surroundings and sound the horn
before moving the machine.
• Personnel are not allowed to approach the
machine without operator approval.
• The rear of the machine is a blind spot. Use the
mirrors and be extremely careful when backing
the machine. Use a signalman as needed.
Failure to follow these warnings could result in
death or serious injury.
