Chapter 2 – Sentinel Keys SDK Components
18 Sentinel Hardware Keys Developer’s Guide
The table below provides a summary (description) of each component. The
remaining chapter provides details of each component mentioned in the
table.
Summary (Description) of the Sentinel Keys SDK Components
Component Description
Sentinel
System Driver The device driver for all the USB tokens included in the SDK.
Sentinel Keys
Toolkit A Java application used by the developer for preparing the application
protection strategy and performing related activities.
Command-Line
Shell Utility A console-based program that protects executables and DLLs using the Shell
method via command-line. Please refer to the Command-Line Shell Utility
ReadMe, for more information.
Key
Programming
APIs Set of API functions used for programming Sentinel Hardware Keys, and
creating update packets. Please refer to the Key Programming API Help,
for
more information.
Developer Key The hardware key that must be attached to the system where the Toolkit is
run.
Compiler
Interfaces The popular language/compiler interfaces for implementing the API
protection.
Sentinel Keys
License
Manager A stand-alone application used by the distributor for programming Sentinel
Keys for customers.
Distributor Key The hardware key that must be attached to the system where the stand-alone
License Manager application is run (typically meant for the distributors).
Sentinel Keys The hardware keys that are programmed with the application protection
strategy (by a developer or distributor) and shipped to the customers. A
customer cannot use the protected application without it. Sentinel Keys are
available for both the stand-alone and network environments (and are
referred hereafter as
stand-alone keys and network keys , respectively).
Sentinel Keys
Server A program that manages the Sentinel Keys license information in a network.
