Warning
A safety belt that is not properly
worn may fail to provide the pro‐
tection needed in a collision. The
person wearing the belt could be
seriously injured. The shoulder
belt should lie over the shoulder
and across the chest. These parts
of the body are best able to take
belt restraining forces.
4. Buckle, position, and release the
safety belt as described previ‐
ously in this section. Make sure
the shoulder portion of the belt is
on the shoulder and not falling off
it. The belt should be close to, but
not touching, the neck.
Belt pretensioners
In the event of a collision of a certain
severity, the front safety belts and
rear outer safety belts are tightened.
9
Warning
Incorrect handling (e.g. removal or
fitting of belts) can trigger the belt
pretensioners.
Deployment of the belt pretensioners
is indicated by illumination of control

102.
Belt pretensioners can only be trig‐
gered once.
Notice
Do not affix or install accessories or
other objects that may interfere with
the operation of the belt pretension‐
ers.
Belt force limiters
On the front seats and outer rear
seats, stress on the body is reduced
by the gradual release of the belt dur‐
ing a collision.
Three-Point Safety Belt
All seating positions in the vehicle
have a three point safety belt.
Fastening
Withdraw the belt from the retractor,
guide it untwisted across the body
and insert the latch plate into the
buckle. Position the lap strap tightly
