appropriate box. Described here are what these channels do and why you might need
them (especially at first).
Talk
- This is your CQCQCQ channel. This is the one on which you talk to the
world. This is the most important of the four and often the only one needed
depending on what other commands you use on the repeater or through the
DVAP.
Echo
- This is the most important function if you are new to DStar or new to
an area. When you use the Echo channel stating your callsign and the
message of "Testing", if you hit the repeater, your transmission in your voice
will be repeated to you. Depending on the clarity and strength of the returned
message, you will know if that repeater is good for you to use. Once you
identify the repeater you plan to use, especially if you stay in one place and
will be using this repeater exclusively, you may want to eliminate this channel
to make room for others.
Status
- This function commands the repeater to tell you its "linked" status.
Some repeaters report this information verbally while others scroll the status
in the message text of your radio. That information will include and indication
of the reflector or repeater to which it is linked. If the repeater is not linked
Unlink
- This function unlinks the local repeater from the remote one. It is
good etiquette to leave the system in the state you found it... or in other words,
to hang up the phone when you're finished, especially if you are the one who
established the link.
5:
Repeater Channel Name
- Select Callsign or Location (City) to display on the
face of the radio for the name associated with the channel.
6:
Callsign Routing
- Enter the callsigns to which you want to route a call.
7:
Route to Repeaters/Link to Repeaters
- Select repeaters to which a direct
connection will be made. With a Linked repeater, everyone listening to that particular
repeater will be able to respond. With a Routed repeater, those who route back to you
will be able to respond.
8:
Route to Reflectors
- Select the reflector connections to be made. A connection to
a reflector is like being in a group chat. Anyone from around the world can connect to
the same reflector to join the conversation and you can talk back to anyone you hear.
Note: When using a repeater or your hotspot, remember, the device
can do one thing. Link to Repeater, Route to Repeater, or Link to
Reflector. When you initiate the contact or link the machine, you are
in control. Others can join in on your conversation, but remember to
leave the repeater as you found it so it is available for someone else
to use.
