4. PROCEDURES
This section contains important information regarding the safe operation of parts and features on
the
RGK
wheelchair.
WARNING!
Please use the procedures in this section as a ‘basic’ guide. The upmost care must
be taken when operating the
RGK
wheelchair. It is the
users’ full responsibility to correctly
operate or adjust the
RGK
wheelchair and approve for use thereafter.
4.1. BACKREST
The back rest is the upright part of the wheel chair which supports the users back. The
following sub-sections contain information regarding the backrest and the backrest
upholstery.
WARNING!
The tension of the back upholstery is directly related to the chairs stability. Any
adjustment may cause the chair to decrease in stability. Use EXTREME caution when using
a new seating position for the first time.
4.1.1. ADJUSTING UPHOLSTERY TENSION
Follow these steps to adjust the tension in both
parts of the back upholstery; upper back support
and lower back support,
see image 2
.
STEP 1: Pull centre pad up from the back (side with
RGK
logo).
STEP 2: Upper back tension - reposition Velcro
overlap on wing to increase/decrease tension.
STEP 3: Lower back tension - reposition Velcro
overlap on support strap to increase/decrease
tension.
STEP 4: Securely re-fit centre pad.
4.1.2. REPLACING UPHOLSTERY
Follow these steps to replace the backrest upholstery;
STEP 1: Remove cushion.
STEP 2: Release backrest tail from seat sling.
STEP 3: Pull centre pad up from back and release support
strap.
STEP 4: Lift off backrest upholstery.
STEP 5: Attach NEW support strap at the correct height
with the straps facing outwards.
STEP 6: Place NEW wing over backrest tubes using the
allocated pockets.
STEP 7: Overlap Velcro on NEW wing so straps are facing
outwards.
STEP 8: Place NEW centre pad over NEW wing ensuring
equal length either side.
STEP 9: Push together to secure.
STEP 10: Attach the tail of NEW centre pad to seat sling.
STEP 11: Replace Cushion.
