d) Checking and Drive and Head Mechanics
Before commissioning your model helicopter, you need to
check the drive mechanics. Only if the mechanics work se-
curely, without play and absolutely smoothly can be model
fly with low energy expenditure. For this reason, you should
check the model function before each flight.
For this, carefully turn the main rotor back and forth and
check the interaction of the main gear (1) and the motor
pinion (2).
The gears must securely fit into each other without catching
or showing too much friction. The gears can be checked
well by looking through the fuselage opening from below.
“Locking” turning of the motor is caused by the motor mag-
net and is a normal occurrence. If the tooth backlash is too
low or too large, it can be adjusted after loosening of the
motor screws (3) (also see chapter 14).
The rear rotor gear (4) is inspected according to the same
process, with the tooth backlash here being set by the con-
struction.
The centrifugal weight rod (5) must be aligned precisely
straight and its ends must be easy to move up and down.
The rockers of the rotor (6) must not be difficult to move or
catch in any position.
Caution!
Only use suitable screwdrivers for tightening
screws and ensure that you do not use exces-
sive force. The threads or the screw material may
be damaged otherwise.
