12. First take-off
a) Starting the quadcopter
The operation and handling of remote controlled model aircraft must be learned! If you have never before
operated a model of this kind, take extra care at the start and get used to the reactions of the model to the
remote control commands first. Be patient! Refer to the instructions in section 11.
Do not take any risks when using the product! Always use the model responsibly, otherwise you may
endanger yourself and your surroundings.
•
Ensure that the quadcopter rechargeable battery is fully charged.
• Place the model on a smooth, flat surface (e.g. a stone floor). A carpet is less suitable here, because the quadcopter
could easily get caught in the carpet.
The (green) LEDs point forward (away from you) and mean "forward".
•
To turn on the quadcopter, press and hold down the button on the body of the model for a few seconds. The model
LEDs start flashing quickly.
•
Then use the on/off switch to switch on the remote control transmitter (Fig. 4, no. 3). The control LED in the trans-
mitter flashes. In a few seconds, the transmitter will emit a short beep and the quadcopter LEDs will flash at a slow
rate. If the control LED on the transmitter glows steadily after a few seconds and the model LEDs flash at a steady,
slow rate, this indicates that the model has successfully been paired with the transmitter.
•
To enable the GPS mode, press the "Turn GPS on and off" button on the transmitter (Figure 4, no. 12). A long beep
indicates "GPS mode on", a short beep indicates "GPS mode off".
Flight operation is theoretically possible without enabling the GPS mode. However, flying without GPS is
much more challenging.
All GPS-supported functions such as "stand at one spot", altitude control, return and landing at the start-
ing point or certain safety features (undervoltage; model outside the frequency range) are then not or not
completely available. Therefore, flight operation is recommended only in GPS mode.
A GPS signal is usually not received in enclosed spaces and halls. It is therefore not possible to enable
GPS. In this case, turn off the GPS function.
•
Press and hold down the "Calibrate gyro" button (Figure 4, no. 8) for approx. three seconds until the quadcopter
LEDs flash quickly. After releasing the button, the quadcopter LEDs will flash at a steady, slow rate after a few
seconds. This indicates that the gyro sensors have been recalibrated.
•
Now calibrate the compass. To do this, press and hold down the "Calibrate compass" button (Figure 4, no. 10) for
approx. three seconds until the quadcopter LEDs flash at a fast rate. Then release the "Calibrate compass" button.
