DSMC MODULE COMPATIBILITY AND RESTRICTIONS
The DSMC BRAIN is designed to support a wide range of power and media modules, enabling the user to
configure their camera for changing requirements. This section provides additional information regarding the
compatibility of modules and DSMC configurations.
WARNING:
It is important that you read and understand the instructions for new DSMC modules before you install
and use them for the first time. Failure to comply with compatibility instructions and certain module restrictions
may result in irreparable damage to your DSMC BRAIN.
POWER AND BATTERY MODULES
The are some restrictions when attaching multiple modules to your DSMC BRAIN. The DSMC BRAIN can only
support one power or battery module at a time. For example, you cannot attach a PRO BATTERY MODULE
(DUAL) or REDVOLT XL MODULE if there is already a PRO BATTERY MODULE (QUAD) attached to the BRAIN.
In these configurations, the DSMC BRAIN receives power through the SEARAY connectors between the mod-
ules and the BRAIN. Remember that you should only ever attach one module that can supply power through
the SEARAY connector.
Backpack modules are an exception to this rule. You may attach a backpack module or other power source that
provides input power via the 6-pin 1B LEMO power connector on the DSMC BRAIN. This effectively allows you
to support a maximum of two power/battery modules.
WARNING:
DO NOT USE more than one (1) DSMC battery module at a time. Using more than one (1) DSMC bat-
tery module will damage the DSMC BRAIN and will not be covered under RED warranty.
MODULE PRIORITY
Module priority is generally a recommendation made for convenience, but it can also help with weight distribu-
tion and to optimize cable and connector positioning while shooting. For this reason it is recommended that
some DSMC Modules always be prioritized and attached to the DSMC in a certain order, such as when using
the PRO I/O MODULE. The PRO I/O MODULE should be attached directly behind your adaptor module and
before any attached DSMC battery modules.
PRO I/O MODULE
When using a PRO I/O MODULE along with other DSMC modules, ensure that it is the first module in the con-
figuration (closest to the BRAIN). This positions cable attachments closest to the brain and provides easy ac-
cess to any power modules and batteries located behind it in the configuration.
MAXIMUM SUPPORTED MODULES
RED recommends that a maximum supported module limit of four (4). It is not recommended to use more than
four (4) modules at any time as this may cause power distribution problems or even structural issues such as:
bowing, damage to connectors, or damage to the DSMC BRAIN itself.
