For Concrete
The illustration
Fig. 8
shows a threaded stud
and a drive pin holding timber to concrete.
The correct length should be selected as follows:
Fig. 8
• Drive pins
The Drive Pin length is calculated as fixture
thickness (x) plus embedment depth (y). The
embedment depth is calculated as 6 to 8 times
the shank diameter (22-30mm for standard
Ramset LDU Pins).
• Threaded studs
The shank length (y) is calculated as above
for embedment depth of drive pins. To select
the thread length (z) add the thickness of the
fixture material (x) to the combined thickness
of the nut and washer (normally allow twice
the thread diameter).
Remember
• Drive Pin: 6 to 8 x shank diameter plus
fixture thickness (x) =
shank length.
• Threaded
Stud: 6 to 8 x shank diameter =
shank length (y).
Thickness of material (x) plus
thickness of nut & washer =
thread length (z).
• To avoid withdrawal of threaded studs, do not
overtighten nut.
• Refer to approved fasteners chart on pages
13 and 14
to assist in your selection.
SAFETY WARNING
Fasteners should not be fixed
into materials which are too
thin, too brittle, too soft or too
hard, refer Safety Precautions,
14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20,
pages 3 and 4 of this manual.
For Steel
The illustration
Fig. 9
shows a threaded stud
and a drive pin holding wood to steel.
The correct length should be selected as follows:
Fig. 9
• Drive pins
For steels from 4mm to 8mm, the drive pin
length is calculated as the fixture thickness (x)
plus the thickness of the steel (t) plus 6mm
to ensure full point penetration. For steels over
8mm thick the drive pin length is calculated as
the fixture thickness (x) plus 12mm.
• Threaded studs
The shank length is calculated as above for
the embedment depth (y) of drive pins, ie
(t) plus 6mm or 12mm as above. To select
the thread length (z) add the thickness of the
fixture material (x) to the combined thickness
of the nut and washer (normally allow twice
the thread diameter).
Remember
• Drive Pin: Fixture thickness (x) plus steel
thickness (t) plus 6mm =
shank length (up to 8mm
Steel).
• Threaded
Stud: Steel thickness (t) plus 6mm =
shank length (up to 8mm
Steel).
Fixture thickness (x) plus
thickness of nut & washer =
thread length (z).
• Thick Steel
(over 8mm): 12mm plus fixture thickness =
shank length.
• To avoid withdrawal of threaded studs, do not
overtighten nut.
