Troubleshooting Proto-Sound 2.0 Problems

Although Proto-Sound2.0hasbeendesignedandengineeredforeaseofuse, you may
have some questions during initial operation. The following table should answer most

When I first turn thepoweron,theengine
will not begin to run.
The engine will notstartafterIpressthe
Directionbutton.
Myengine soundsare distortedand garbled.

You may be pressingthe button too quickly. Try
pressingthe Hornbutton moreslowly,taking
approximately onefullsecondtofullydepressthe

This isnormalbehavior. Topreventaccidental
high-speed start-ups,Proto-Sound 2.0 is
programmed to start upinneutralanytimetrack
power has beenturned offforseveralseconds. See
the "Basic Operation"section formoredetails.
You maynotbesendingenoughpowertothetrack
topowertheengine. Press the throttle up forafew
more seconds to increase trackpower.
Thebattery may haverun down,especially ifthe
engine hasbeen instorageforsometime. See the
"Self-ChargingBattery Back-Up" sectionof these
instructionsfor howtotest,recharge, and (if
necessary) replacethe battery.
Coupler
Remedy
When I trytofirethecoupler,FYSstarts.
The Proto-Coupler won'tlettheengine
uncoupleonthefly.
The couplerdoesnotfireorstaycoupled.
You arewaitingtoolongbetweenHornbutton
presses.Seethetiminginstructionslocated atthe
beginningofthe "Proto-Sound2.0Operating
Instructions"section.
Trylubricating thecouplerknuckleandrivetwith
adrygraphitelubricant.
The coupler needs tobecleaned. Wipe with
denaturedalcohol (not rubbing alcohol)and let
dry.
Cab Chatter
Remedy
Sometimesthe Cab Chatter soundsdon't
play.
Cab Chatter plays only inneutralatrandom
intervals.
Lock-out
Remedy
I can't gettheenginetorunafterIpowerup
thetransformer. Itsitsstillwiththediesel
andcompressorsoundsrunning.
The engine won'tlockintoforward,neutral,
orreverse.
The enginemaybe lockedintotheneutral
position. Followthe procedurein the"Lockintoa
Direction"section to unlockthe engine's direction.
Engine speedmustbebelow10scalemph
(approx. 10 volts or lessinconventionalmode).
