Product Identification
Overview
All current RadiSys system controller boards support product identification. This information
is embedded in the BIOS and can be read by an operating system or application. The location
of the data is fixed for all current products.
BIOS
The starting location for these fields in the BIOS is F000:FF90h (000FFF90h), and it is
identified by the ASCII string “TMI” terminated with a null (0h). All data is stored in ASCII.
A map of the data fields is provided in the following table:
Serial Number
The Serial Number field will contain an ASCII string “SN” followed by a space then the
ASCII serial number string, terminated with a null. RadiSys serial numbers are up to twelve
characters in length, using numbers and uppercase letters. The operating system or application
must verify the presence of the “SN” string before attempting to retrieve a serial number from
the location F000:FFB2h.

The following is sample content of the fields in the BIOS of a typical RadiSys product:
This identifies a EPC-3221 model system controller board, operating at 366 MHz with the
SCSI, Video, and Ethernet optional peripherals. The serial number is 123456789ABC, and the
BIOS release is 4.06a.1.2e, built on 5/30/00.
