INTRODUCTION
The Quorum Communications GRB-200 (GOES-R) Dual Channel Demodulator is a key
component of the Quorum GOES-R GRB Reception System and has been designed to work
together with the Quorum Dual Polarity GRB Feed to provide the ultimate in GOES-R data
reception.
While many general purpose DVB-S2 receivers are available, the Quorum GRB-200 has
been designed specifically to support the requirements of both GRB reception and more
importantly to work within the expected hostile RF environment of the GRB L-band
downlink. Unlike traditional satellite video or data transmissions, the GRB downlink will
have potential close-in interfering signals from cell phone transmissions that present unique
challenges for error free reception. When used with the Quorum GRB Feed, potential
interfering signals are significantly reduced by distributed filtering and gain while
simultaneously providing high efficiency. The GRB-200 input provides additional filtering
using SAW filters of the exact GRB signal bandwidth to help with eliminating interfering
signals. A completely digital ASIC demodulator, designed specifically for industrial
applications provides near Shannon limit performance.
