POINT TO POINT
Two Q23 DATRAN eXcel modules may be inter-connected together to operate as a Point-to-Point telemetry
system. The two Q23 point-to-point modules may be inter-connected by either direct connected wires or data
radios. Specific point-to-point application software must be installed into each of the Q23 modules in this type of
application.
The following sections detail the setting up and configuration of the above.
I/O Mapping
In a point to point system the inputs of one Q23 module are mapped to the outputs of the other Q23 module. The
following table shows the I/O mapping Q23 Module A to Q23 module B.

The same I/O mapping applies for Q23 Module B to Q23 module A. That is the Inputs are mapped to Outputs
across the point-to-
point system modules. The Analog I/O channels are supplied configured as 0…20mA channels
as standard. The Analog channels can be re-
configured to either 0…5 volts or 0…10 volts as required. Refer to
the Configuration section of this manual for details.
Configuration
This section details the configuration of the point-to-point system.
The point to point system is generally shipped to the customer pre-configured and ready for use. However in some
special applications it may be necessary to change the way in which the point-to-point system operates.
The point-to-point configuration is setup by the 8-position DIP switch located on the Q23 motherboard. These DIP
switches are labelled 1 to 8 and are configured as follows:
Module Address
The mo
dule address can be set in the range 0…15. Both modules in a point-to-point system must have the same
module address. The module address is set with DIP switches 1, 2, 3 and 4. The Module Address DIP switch
settings are shown in the table below.
