Installation: Fragrance Director Attachment
VII. Choosing a Fragrance Director
Each Air/Q 1100 Avian must be installed with a fragrance director to transport the dry
fragrance vapor to the desired location

. There are two fragrance directors to choose
from: (a) the Direct Indoor Fan (KIT1100FAN), suitable for ceiling heights less than 20’
and (b) the Diffusion Director (KIT1100DD), an extendable director which starts at 6.5’
and is extendable by additional 5’ sections (KIT1100DUCT), up to any height that is
needed to reach the areas frequented by birds.
There are two main considerations in choosing a fragrance director: (1) the height of
the ceiling and (2) convenience of machine access for servicing. It is usually best for the
Air/Q 1100 Avian to be within easy reach with a manageable ladder to change fragrance
cartridges and service the machine. In most case the unit is mounted no higher than 12’
off the floor. If the ceiling height is more than 20’ then you probably want an Extend-
able Director with sufficient extensions to come within 5’ to 10’ of the ceiling.
For example, if the ceiling height is 50’ and the rafters range from 40’ to 50’ off the floor
area, then you need to get the fragrance output to around 35’ to 40’. Start by mounting
the Air/Q 1100 Avian at an accessible 10’ off the floor. The extendable director will give
you 6.5’ plus the machine itself is 18”, for a total of 8’, so you are 22 feet from the birds.
You need about 20 more feet, or four 5’ extender sections. This gets you within range at
38’. The result is a highly effective system delivering scent to just the right area from a
machine which is easy to access and service.
NOTE: Be sure to mount the machine upwind of the natural air flow in the space. This
means the natural air flow will work with you in moving the invisible dry fog of scent to
areas where the birds are located.

The Air/Q 1100 Avian may also be installed to diffuse via an HVAC system. This is an uncommon installa-
tion for reaching bird roosting areas, but for those situations, installation instructions for HVAC diffusion
are provided at the end of this manual.
