9. The shift drum has several components listed below.
The orientation of the torsion spring

is important
when rebuilding the shift drum. After assembly of cam
d
, torsion spring
s
, washer
a
, and retaining ring

,
while holding the drum, the cam should be twisted by
hand to load the torsion spring and ensure it moves
freely. Twist the cam away from it’s free state position
and make sure it snaps back into it’s free state.
CAUTION
Make sure torsion spring is installed correctly and the
cam snaps back into it’s free state. If the torsion spring
is left out, or installed incorrectly, the shift into PARK
may not engage completely.

10. Install the rear output shaft assembly

. Rotate
output shaft assembly to align slots with engagement
dog. Ensure bearing is fully seated upon assembly.
11. Apply a continuous bead of Loctite® 680 Sealant
(PN: 3233901 ) to the left hand transmission mating
surface.
12. Install the transmission case cover and retaining bolts
g
. Torque bolts to specification.
TORQUE
Transmission Case Bolts:
20 ft-lbs (27 Nm)
NOTICE
If using NEW left hand gearcase, holes are "not
threaded" for self tapping screws to form threads.
13. Install new seals into the transmission case halves.
